Chapter 2 Desire

Hill calls desire “The Starting Point of all Achievement”.  The
scripture states “Where there is no vision, the people perish:
but he that keeps the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

I have to ask these questions: Just how strong must desire be
for it to influence our life? How big of a desire must we have
to change our direction and become unstoppable?

Barnes succeeded because he chose a definite goal, and placed all
his energy, all his willpower, all his effort, and everything back
of the goal. This was his First Step toward Riches.

I have discovered that no matter what I want to accomplish be it
preaching, finding the love of my life, writing a book, or building
a network marketing business it cannot and will not be done without
a definite burning desire.

Just like Barnes had to create a plan for obtaining going into
business with Edison and make the necessary change as needed I too,
have to create my plan and determine what I will give in exchange
for achieving and receiving that which I desire. It may call for
dedicating the time away from other activities or people. Fixing eyes
on a target date for completion.

Carefully read Hill’s words, “But he (Barnes) burned all bridges
behind him. He stood by his desire, until it became the dominating
obsession of his life
—and—finally, a fact.” This infers we need to
have plenty of “stop it” matches for there will be bridges we may need
to torch. Also, remember to bring the material of positive emotions
to build the bridges, as you may have need.

“The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire;
the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointments along the
way.” Robert Kiyosaki

I have found the meaning behind having a definite burning desire after
publishing my first book last year. I discovered joy and fulfillment
in researching, writing, and sharing ideas, thoughts, and dreams with
others. I have received a tremendous feeling of fulfillment and joy from this.

The choice is before me to apply this same definite burning desire to
all areas of achievement be it building relationships, getting new
customers, new team members, and personal development.

Thanks to everyone who participates in these weekly calls and brings value
to all. A special thanks to Linda and Michael Dlouhy for building the
