CHAPTER 6: Imagination-The
Workshop of the Mind

Man’s only limitation, within reason, lies in his development and use of
his imagination.
He has not yet reached the apex of development in the use
of his imaginative faculty. He has merely discovered that he has an
imagination and has commenced to use it in a very elementary way.”
Napoleon Hill

Imagination is the ability to form ideas and images that do not originate
with your senses. This is a foundational ability that plays a role in a wide
range of common mental processes.

Oh, to be a child again with an inquisitive imagination, seeing endless
possibilities, living big dreams, and believing I can do anything. A child,
who is always asking questions, wanting to know why and how. I have to ask,
“Where is my inter-child today?”

Watch children at play.  It is the work they do to develop the mind. A key
element of play is exercising the imagination such as a child who imagines
they are a superhero. Play is also known to benefit the productivity,
creativity, and happiness of adults. Adult forms of play tend to be less
imaginative and more competitive than play that comes naturally to children.
However, adults can engage in imaginative forms of play such as visual games,
creating a dream board, and improvisation.

“The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.”
Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Imagination is the ability to visualize concepts and events. The imagination
is the basis for visual thinking and related functions such as dreaming.
Imagination calls for the suspension of disbelief a willingness to put the
conscious mind on hold to view the hopes, dreams, ideas, plans, and desires
as real and possible. Imagination is the seed that blossoms into a field of
endless possibilities.

We are coming into the time of year when the countryside of Texas starts to
turn blue. I’m talking about Texas bluebonnets. These flowers grow wild throughout
Texas. Each year, they bloom in mid-spring, covering the fields and hills with a
carpet of rich blue and white highlights. Until I moved to Texas, I had never seen
anything like it. Interesting fact the bluebonnet seeds for totally unimpressive
but throw a hand into any backyard and the magic will happen. Such is the magic of
imagination let go of the restrain and imagination will flourish.

It was just an idea, but the drug clerk saw a vision of what that formula could become.
With persistence, he moved forward risked his entire savings and launched a product that
is now known and used around the world. The Coke Cola brand started with a synthetic
imagination of a written formula and a big kettle. To it was added the creative imagination
of a new marketing plan starting with seeing it in drug stores, soda shops, and the big
red signs.

I came to network marketing when someone shared an idea (a formula) for creating a part-time
income, the synthetic imagination based on what others had done. Coming to Mentoring for Free
the scope of my creative imagination has blossomed in ideas and hunches which I hope to share
with others.

Thanks to Linda and Michael Dlouhy as well as to everyone who participates in making this mastermind
such a warm and inviting place to be where I have found encouragement and support.
