Chapter 1-Introduction: Thoughts are Things

William Ernest Henley should have informed us in “I am the Master
of my Fate, I am the Captain of my Soul,” that we are the masters
of our fate, the captains of our souls, because God has given us
the power to control our thoughts. In the ether in which this
little earth floats, in which we move and have our being, is a
form of energy moving at an inconceivably high rate of vibration,
and that the ether is filled with a form of universal power which
adapts itself to the nature of the thoughts we hold in into their
physical equivalent.

“Thoughts are things,” and it is within our power to control our
thoughts. The power to mix thoughts with purpose, persistence and
a burning desire to gain everything we can dream. Or do we just
yield the difficulties, failures, or disappointments and stop our
three feet short, as R. U. Darby and his uncle did.

Look at the obstacles that could have stopped Edwin Barnes and his
desire to work with Mr. Edison. First. he did not know Mr. Edison.
Second, he did not have the money to travel to New Jersey. Thirdly,
he had no idea of the type of work or business he would be in with
Mr. Edison nor how long it would take.

Yet, Mr. Barnes thoughts turned into a BURNING DESIRE which he would
not give up.

Napoleon Hill has correctly said that “When one is truly ready for
a thing, it puts in its appearance.”

‘Barnes was ready for a business association with Edison, moreover,
he was determined to remain ready until he got that which he was

And he did find that which he sought, and riches did come from it.

Think of the lesson R.U. Darby learned of stopping “three feet stop”
when gold mining with his uncle. “One of the most common causes of
failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary
defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.”
Napoleon Hill

But instead, Mr. Darby takes from this setback and the lesson young
colored girl of never quitting when the no’s come. Never stop short
but to go all the way for as long as it takes. To drop the word
“impossible” from our vocabulary.

“Success comes to those who become SUCCESS CONSCIOUS. Failure comes
to those who indifferently allow themselves to become FAILURE CONSCIOUS.”

Now for a little self-talk to myself, “Stop making excuses and just
DO IT!! I can think, I have the desire, I have a plan and I have a
purpose (a big WHY).

Thank you, Linda and Michael Dlouhy, you followed your thoughts and
