Think and Grow Rich, Chapter 13

The Brain

Greatest Forces Are “Intangible”

The depression brought the world to the very borderline of understanding of the forces which are intangible and unseen.  Through the ages which have passed, man has depended too much upon his physical senses, and has limited his knowledge to physical things, which he could see, touch, weigh, and measure.

This concept reminds me of something I read many years ago.  A scientist, whose name escapes me right now, introduced to the general public that many of the organisms that cause illness in human beings are microscopic.  In other words, these organisms were so tiny, it was impossible to see them with the naked eye.  Therefore, they could only be seen under a microscope.  Of course, the general public reacted to this new idea with disdain and ridicule.  However, as we know now, many people eventually had to eat their hats!

It is a fact that human beings don’t pay particular attention to anything that cannot be perceived through the 5 senses.  I’ve been aware of this for some time, but I never took the time to examine this phenomenon more closely.  Have you ever been in a high-rise building and while waiting in the lobby for the elevator to come, the door finally opens and there is one person in the elevator who is leaving?  Have you ever taken a good look at that person’s face?  Sometimes, you can almost tell what they are thinking by his or her facial expression.  I think that’s just one example of an “intangible force.”
