Think and Grow Rich
The Mastery of Procrastination
The Seventh Step toward Riches
“Procrastination, the opposite of Decision, is the common enemy which practically every man must conquer.” Truer words were never spoken!
Times when I've been decisive and made decisions quickly, I will follow through almost immediately. But those decisions I've hesitated making or, in some cases, “researched fully” usually don't get accomplished, if made at all; which if you think about it is a decision-the decision not to make any decision at all.
In my case, I will use perfection as my excuse as to why I can't do something. “It's not ready yet”,or “But what if I don't get it right?”. I can hear myself saying those things to myself. So I put it off, and put it off, until either I don't do it at all or it takes some situation that prompts action out of me. I think I tend to use those excuses most when I'm facing the possibility of a larger bill that could be generated or if I might lose something if I changed. (ei. My current cell phone provider.) I think, on the one hand, I have the fear of change and on the other hand, the fear of losing something if I do change.
Napoleon stated, “The value of decisions depends upon the courage required to render them.” With the help of MFF and our mastermind group, my courage has grown so I'm not as hesitant to make decisions anymore. I just trust that things will work themselves out and I don't get concerned if they don't. Besides, “researching” and putting decisions off takes too much energy and wastes a lot of time. You know you will have to make a decision sooner or later-just make it quickly and firmly.
