Chapter 10 Power of the Mastermind
POWER OF THE MASTER MIND THE DRIVING FORCE
The Ninth Step toward Riches
What is a Mastermind Group?
I define a mastermind group as a privilege group of people who work together to help each member of the group overcome challenges and reach their purpose. The term was first coined by Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich. Hill defined the "Master Mind" as a "coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose." - I have to admit that his definition is quite a bit more eloquent than mine :-) (Lavinsky).
Through a process which only Nature completely understands, she translates energy into matter. Nature’s building blocks are available to man, in the energy involved in THINKING! Man’s brain may be compared to an electric battery. It absorbs energy from the ether, which permeates every atom of matter, and fills the entire universe (Hill). In his research, Hill had surveyed hundreds of the most successful people in the world. The Master Mind concept was inspired by Hill's many conversations with the highly successful businessman Andrew Carnegie. Importantly, Carnegie attributed his entire fortune and success to his mastermind group (Lavinsky)
Some Famous Examples of Mastermind Groups
I previously mentioned that Andrew Carnegie credited to his entire fortune and success to his mastermind group. But there are many other famous examples of individuals reaching massive success from being part of a mastermind group.
In England, a mastermind group of writers and poets included CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, Charles Williams, and Owen Barfield among others. Two classic works of literature emerged from this group: The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings.
President Theodore Roosevelt started a mastermind group during his presidency. Roosevelt was only 42 years old when he became president (the youngest age ever for an American president). He needed help working with many of the other politicians who were much older than he, and turned to his mastermind group for this guidance, support and help.
And finally, my favorite historical mastermind group was called "The Vagabonds." It included Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, President Warren G. Harding and Harvey Firestone (founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company).
I call this group my favorite, since collectively they achieved such amazing things. Thank you Linda and Michael Dlouhy, Bob and Anna Bassett, and everyone in the Mastermind group.
