In this chapter we are asked to take a good look at ourselves to see just how many of the six major fears are holding us back and how we can prevent them from stopping us from doing what we need to do if we are to reach whatever our dream lifestyle means to us.
The six are listed as Fear of
LOSS OF LOVE OF SOMEONE
In my own case each of these have been relevant at one time or another throughout my life. Some, sadly are still with me but I have learnt that while I may not be able to defeat them all, I have found ways to accept they exist and move around them so they are no longer allowed to interfere in day to day life.
For me that recognition has been a great relief. I still occasionally worry about joining the ranks of the dearly departed too early because I still have so much to do. Even as a Green personality who likes to have all the facts before feeling comfortable in making any decision, I came to accept some things are beyond full understanding, so need to be recognised, accepted then put to one side.
Michael often says it is not important what others think about us, the important thing is what we think of ourselves. We all face our fear, pretty much every day, it’s how we handle them which will decide how we truly feel about ourselves.
In many cases, the most successful of us are those best able to both respect yet ignore the six fears. Where plenty might use whatever circumstance, poor childhood experiences, disadvantaged background or anything else they feel life has served up, as excuses for not doing well, true leaders will use those same experiences as their ‘fuel’, in the same way a car uses petrol, diesel or electric power, to drive themselves forward.
There is a saying “if life keeps giving you lemons, you had better learn to make lemonade”. The real winners in life are those who learn to make greatlemonade.
