I'm going to continue with my example from the last chapter referring to Evil Knievel.

Hill states:

HOW TO DEVELOP PERSISTENCE
There are four simple steps which lead to the habit of PERSISTENCE. They call for no great amount of intelligence, no particular amount of education, and but little time or effort. The necessary steps are:—
1. A DEFINITE PURPOSE BACKED BY BURNING DESIRE FOR ITS FULFILLMENT.

Knievel had this burning desire to be the worlds most famous Dare Devil.

2. A DEFINITE PLAN, EXPRESSED IN CONTINUOUS ACTION.

Knievel's plan was definitely expressed with his many jumps.

3. A MIND CLOSED TIGHTLY AGAINST ALL NEGATIVE AND DISCOURAGING INFLUENCES, including negative suggestions of relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Knievel no doubt blocked all negative and discouraging people, suggestions and thoughts when doing his jumps.

4. A FRIENDLY ALLIANCE WITH ONE OR MORE PERSONS WHO WILL ENCOURAGE ONE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH BOTH PLAN AND PURPOSE.

Knievel had a small, a very small circle of people that worked with him and his plan and purpose to become the worlds best dare devil, perhaps the best ever.

These four steps are essential for success in all walks of life. The entire purpose of the thirteen principles of this philosophy is to enable one to take these four steps as a matter of habit.

These are the steps by which one may control one’s economic destiny.

Knievel controlled his.

They are the steps that lead to freedom and independence of thought.

Knievel was definitely an independent thinker.

They are the steps that lead to riches, in small or great quantities.

Knievel made his fortune at this.

They lead the way to power, fame, and worldly recognition.
Knievel was famous and recognized around the world.

They are the four steps which guarantee favorable “breaks.”

Knievel got his "breaks", he survived!

They are the steps that convert dreams into physical realities.
Knievel lived and felt his physical reality in his jumps.

They lead, also, to the mastery of FEAR, DISCOURAGEMENT, INDIFFERENCE.

Knievel absolutely Mastered these.

There is a magnificent reward for all who learn to take these four steps. It is the privilege of writing one’s own ticket, and of making Life yield whatever price is asked.

Knievel did just this, and he yielded the worlds most famous Dare Devil.

PS: As a Yound man, to help support his family, Knievel switched careers from a motocross rider and sold insurance for the Combined Insurance Company of America, working for W. Clement Stone.

Stone suggested that Knievel read Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude, a book that Stone wrote with Napoleon Hill. Knievel credited much of his later success to Stone and his book.
