Chapter 9 - Persistence

Hill tells us at the beginning of this chapter "PERSISTENCE is an essential
factor in the procedure of transmuting DESIRE into its monetary equivalent.
The basis of persistence is the POWER OF WILL. Will-power and desire, when
properly combined, make an irresistible pair."

One of the definitions of Will power in the Dictionary is energetic determination
and determination is described as a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end.

I talked with someone the other day and they asked me to help them become focused.
I asked them what they wanted to achieve, what was their "Why", what goals did they
have and they could not give me an answer.

So how can we be persistent and have energetic determination if we don't even
know what our desired end is?

It is like going out for target practice.  You go out to a field, you have no gun
you have no arrow you have just yourself standing there.  You stand there and say
to yourself, "I am going to hit the target" and you are expecting results!  You aim
for the target and you begin looking for the target but you can't see one. You turn
around and around in circles looking for the target but you don’t see it because You
failed to put up a target to hit.  You stand there and say to yourself, "I am going
to hit that target" and you are still expecting results!  REALLY?

You may be persistent, you may have a desire to hit the target but you have nothing
to aim at!  It's like grasping for the wind.

Hill tells us "lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. Moreover,
experience with thousands of people has proved that lack of persistence is a weakness
common to the majority of men. It is a weakness which may be overcome by effort.
The ease with which lack of persistence may be conquered will depend entirely upon
the INTENSITY OF ONE’S DESIRE."

We may have persistence but persistence needs something to work with.
