“Autosuggestion is a term which applies to all self-administered stimuli which reach one’s mind through the five senses”. There is a constant battle going on for possession of your mind; if you do not use your internal power to repel the external invaders, you will have lost the battle. The question is: what set of thoughts are you going to allow dominate your mind? Without a life-purpose and strong desire, based on it, you may not be able to defend yourself, as you won’t be able to create a strong enough autosuggestion of your own.

We have absolute control as to what thoughts we permit to dominate our minds. Hill says: “Nature has so built man that he has absolute control over the material which reaches his subconscious mind through his five senses”, and, “Through the dominating thoughts which one permits to remain in the conscious mind (whether these thoughts be negative or positive is immaterial) the principle of autosuggestion voluntarily reaches the subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts”.  By using autosuggestion or self-talk, we can decide what thoughts we want to influence our subconscious minds and these suggestions should be based upon our life-purposes and intensely held desires. Otherwise, suggestions from outside sources, such as advertising and the media, will become our autosuggestion or self-talk. We will be like the dummy, repeating the ventriloquist’s words, except that, in our case, they will be believed and passed on to our subconscious minds.

If we don’t control our thoughts through self-talk, external forces will set our agendas and use our repetition of habits, stemming from those agendas, to enslave us more and more. What makes autosuggestion or self-talk so powerful is the constant repetition which eventually induces belief. “Autosuggestion is the agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of a creative nature, or, by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find their way into this rich garden of the mind”. This is why I believe that without a self-talk, created by us, we are a lost cause.

The elements that are essential for an effective self-talk are (1) Persistence: “Your ability to use the principle of autosuggestion will depend, very largely, upon your capacity to concentrate upon a given desire until that desire becomes a burning obsession”, (2) The Power of Concentration: “… hold your thoughts on that amount of money by concentration or fixation of attention until you can actually see the physical appearance of the money”(3) Faith, which comes from persistence and the power of concentration, and, (4) Strong Feeling or Emotion: “Your subconscious mind recognizes and acts only upon thoughts which have been well mixed with emotion or feeling”.

So, the question really is: do you want autosuggestion or self-talk to be set by outside forces, or, will you choose your own autosuggestion or self-talk and use it to compel your subconscious mind to seek the help you need from Infinite Intelligence to make plans for the attainment of your purpose and desires?
