Chapter 6 Imagination

THE WORKSHOP OF THE MIND

The Fifth Step toward Riches

“This world is but a canvas to our imagination”. Henry David Thoreau

In Chapter 1, Hill stated “Thoughts are things and powerful things at that”, further going onto say “that man can create anything which he can imagine”. Everything around us is the result of some man’s thoughts and their conversion through the use of IMAGINATION into some finite object.

Imagination has resulted in many changes, throughout out the ages, to bring us to the point where we accept even space travel as an everyday thing. Hill foresaw that there had been and would be major advance in travel to sight one example, man could out fly birds and the day would come where he could breakfast on the East Coast of America and lunch on the West Coast. The speed of travel is that far advanced that aircraft can now fly faster than the speed of sound.

The quote above really sums up the whole field open to the imagination. An artist starts with a blank canvas and using his imagination creates a picture. Likewise an architect starts with a vacant plot of land, a specification for a building and using his Imagination transforms as if by magic original thoughts and ideas into unique building.

What is the Imagination? It consists firstly as a transmitting and receiving station between the finite mind of man and infinite intelligence, it is through this process that thoughts and ideas are initially received, also organised plans. Secondly the imagination is composed of SYNTHETIC Imagination and CREATIVE Imagination.

Synthetic Imagination uses and re-arranges old concepts, ideas, or plans into new combinations. This faculty creates nothing. It merely works with the material of experience, education, and observation with which it is fed. It is the faculty used most by the inventor, with the exception of the one who draws upon the creative imagination, when he cannot solve his problem through synthetic imagination.

Creative Imagination it is through the faculty of creative imagination, that the finite mind of man has direct communication with Infinite Intelligence. It is the faculty through which “hunc hes” and “inspirations” are received. It is by this faculty that all basic or new ideas are handed over to man.

In Network Marketing we rely on being able to offer services and products to clients through clever use of words and images. Bearing in mind that today’s audiences have an attention span of around 7 seconds. Therefore the text or picture must have immediate impact. In days gone by the wording on the humble flyer had to catch the eye of the person who had received it. Today in Social Media, the text has to be captivating in its first two or three words or else the person moves to the next posting. Likewise in the case of videos, the pictorial part along with the text has to catch and hold the eyes.

Unfortunately the majority of people use very little or any of their synthetic imagination and their creative imagination is dormant. However they can both be reignited and become fertile with very little effort and produce amazing results with a small amount of teaching and encouragement. I know I had let my imagination become quiescent for a number of years. In the past three years I have reactivated it through necessity to transform Ideas and Hunches into passionate desires with definite of purpose and goals.

Thank you Linda and Michael Dlouhy for inspiring me to make written notes when I receive a hunch or idea, to use critical thinking to see the possibilities within the idea or hunch to reach my goal. Thank you to the Mentors and those who write inspired lessons each week and take action, by speaking up during the calls.
