Chapter 5

Specialized Knowledge

Hill says there are two kinds of knowledge, general and specialized.  General Knowledge is the kind you get when you go to college.  Specialized knowledge is when you study toward a specific end, with a goal in mind.

KNOWLEDGE will not attract money, unless it is organized, and intelligently directed, through practical PLANS OF ACTION, to the DEFINITE END of accumulation of money. ~ Napoleon Hill

It is no wonder that many people struggle in network marketing, or in the pursuit of financial gain.  If we do not apply ourselves to learning about the products we are promoting, or how to converse with people, we will not be successful.

This does not mean that we must have all of that answers at our fingertips.  Sometimes we need to seek out the answers we desire.  Most importantly, if we are part of a Mastermind Group, we can learn from each other.

When I started with my program, I printed out all of the products with their ingredients and made a Binder.  Why?  This helped me to learn about the products and how they would be of use to my customers.  I even went a step further:  I googled products to help with different medical issues.  To my surprise, I found that many of the products I was selling had been known to help with specific medical problems.  Now, when someone tells me a medical issue they are experiencing, I can recommend a product that might help them.

This is what is called specialized knowledge.  I could not learn this in school, specific to my product line. If we become lazy and complacent, we will not have the specific knowledge we need to make money and become successful.

We do not need to have a college degree to make money.  (I wish someone had told me this before I became $50,000 in debt from college!)  However, we must be willing to learn everything we need for our specific goals.

I had a teacher once tell me that we should never stop learning.  I am sure that he was promoting ongoing education in a school environment.  However, his statement was true.  We should never stop learning and growing.  We have the information we need when we have internet access.  And those of us blessed enough to have found a Mastermind Group have a wealth of knowledge just waiting for the asking!

Thank you Michael and Linda Dlouhy, John and Karla Wiser, and all the rest of our great leaders here at MFF!
