Chapter 2 Desire

The First Step toward Riches

In the first chapter we learnt that thought are change into desires (wants) by using human emotions. They become passionate desires, but this is not enough they must have further transformation into desires which are passionate and definite in purpose such that all bridges are burnt so there can be no turning back, the only way is to achieve the desire in it entirety.

Barnes demonstrated this by total abandonment of his present life, travelling to Orange and presenting himself to Edison, in Edison’s words, looking like a tramp. He had come to be the business associate of the great inventor and nothing would change that, it showed in his eyes. Likewise the warrior chief, who ensured that his warriors would give everything in the fourth coming battle, by burning their only means of retreat, the ships that brought them, therefore they had to win or not return home.

Have you ever had that burning desire to achieve something but every person around you says it cannot be achieved, it is impossible. To me the word impossible is like a red rag to a bull, my mind set changes like Henry Ford’s persistence to achieve an engine block, containing 8 cylinders, which was a single casting. Impossible not in the mind of Henry Ford. He envisaged it and believed in the saying “that whatever man can conceive he can achieve”, he persisted in his demand to his engineers that he would have it.

There have been many challenges in my life not the least of which is the challenge to purchase the house I now rent. It started as so many things as a dream, but with time there were additional ideas and plans for the gardens and internal changes to make the living areas more comfortable and energy efficient. The one problem I don’t have the necessary finances to purchase at this time.

Over the past year iI have followed the steps set out in this chapter and for completeness quote here:

“The method by which DESIRE for riches can be transmuted into its financial equivalent, consists of six definite, practical steps, viz:

First. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter).

Second. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.)

Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.

Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

Fifth. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.

Sixth. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

It is important that you follow the instructions described in these six steps. It is especially important that you observe, and follow the instructions in the sixth paragraph. You may complain that it is impossible for you to “see yourself in possession of money” before you actually have it. Here is where a BURNING DESIRE will come to your aid. If you truly DESIRE money so keenly that your desire is an obsession, you will have no difficulty in convincing yourself that you will acquire it. The object is to want money, and to become so determined to have it that you CONVINCE yourself you will have it.”

I have persisted in these steps and I know that my faith, persistence and never quit attitude will prevail and I will achieve my DEFINITE AND PASSIONATE DESIRE TO OWN THIS HOUSE.

Thank you Linda and Michael Dlouhy for you belief in my abilities to achieve my dreams, to own my life and “to know how to think”.
