Chapter 12: The Sub Conscious Mind
The Eleventh Step Towards Riches
"It is your responsibility to make sure that positive emotions constitute the dominating influence of your mind."
In this chapter on the subconscious mind, Hill expresses clearly that each of us are personally responsible for the quality of emotions, and thoughts we let into our minds. Positive impulses of thought, combined with the energy of strong positive emotions, are necessary to plant desires and plans into the subconscious mind and develop a “Money Conscience”. Through this principle desires, intertwined with imagination and faith, open the doors of communication with Infinite Intelligence and transmute desires into tangible monetary equivalents.
To paraphrase Gandhi, what you think you become. On our journey to success, however you define success in your life, negative thoughts and emotions are the most destructive force in our mind: doubt, fear, insecurity, negative self-talk. According to Hill, “The negatives [emotions] voluntarily inject themselves into the thought impulses, which ensure passage into the subconscious mind. The positives [emotions] MUST be injected, through the principles of auto-suggestion.” Hill goes on further to say, “The presence of a single negative thought in your conscious mind is sufficient to destroy all chances of constructive aid from your subconscious mind.”
In this principle, the subconscious mind, our personal responsibility is to apply what we are learning in these thirteen principles toward riches to influence our thoughts through desires, plans, strong positive emotions, positive self-talk, and faith; to stand guard at the very doors of our mind and ward off negative influences. Because, as Hill states, “The subconscious mind is more susceptible to influence by impulses of thought mixed with “feeling” or emotion, than by those originating solely in the reasoning portion of the mind. … If you fail to plant desires in your subconscious mind, it will feed upon the thoughts which reach it as the result of your neglect.”
