Fear, an emotional reaction real or imagined, rational or irrational, normal or abnormal. "If you want someone to believe something (a Lie) you have to tell them (yourself) over and over again." Fear is false propaganda. If I can put into context what I read in this chapter, I liken fear to an awful pantomime play with equally terrible actors: indecision, doubt, and fear. Fear being the protagonist of them all. Collectively, they drown the essential elements of our minds like imagination, creativeness, enthusiasm, and joy, etc. and reduce the self to a state of "comatic" freeze, a state of "profound unconsciousness"-yet totally aware of the surroundings. It is a State of Mind--A state of mental and physical sluggishness.
There should be no wonder that the Six Basic Fears, begin with "The fear of.." Fear is natural. It is a proactive component given to us by our Creator to address real concerns or danger. It is when we live in constant fear, devising images, thoughts that keep us in a fear-based mentality, the result of this constant fear is the ultimate, slow destruction of the self. If I may quote a Bible verse in 2 Timothy 1:7 "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind."
That slow destruction of the self can and will reveal itself in the State of Mind called Worry. Over a period, worry and fear can destroy the physical body with high blood pressure, heart troubles, ulcers and other ailments. Subsequently, when one's health starts to decline, as was stated in our reading, the Fear of Death begins to take root. The Psalmist in Psalms 13:2 said "How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Fear, and worry your enemy, will triumph as long as you allow to succumb to them.
In tackling some of my worries and anxieties, I Am, utilizing what is called self-talk. I had heard of it before, but it meant nothing until my mentor Tony provided me with valuable insight to Self-Talk. The affirmations you craft and recite many times per day and now through this reading, learning of the Self-Analysis Test Questions, I can only imagine the positive influences this combination of techniques can have over time. To the right one's the State Of Mind, it is worth exploring positives techniques to rid oneself of fear and worry.
