Chapter 10 The Power of the Mastermind
Have you ever called a friend when you felt a little down and ended up laughing and having a good time, forgetting all about what brought you there? Suddenly life looks entirely different and you head out to your job or your business with a very different outlook.
Or maybe you had a great boss or sales manager that was able to paint a positive picture about you and your situation leaving you feeling like "WOW anything is possible! I CAN do this."
You just experienced the power of the Mastermind.
Hill describes the Master Mind like this: "Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose." He goes on to say "No individual may have great power without availing himself of the 'Master Mind'" And it is power, personal power, that we develop through our participation in a mastermind that is essential for those of us who are leaders.
The mastermind works at more than one level. For example, it can be a source of information for all participants. What one individual knows and shares becomes available to everyone else and we all benefit. An example is when someone shares their knowledge about Facebook advertising or how to reach people on LinkedIn.
It would be impossible for all of us, individually, to research and become experts on all of the different aspects of social media advertising but when we participate in a genuine mastermind, one in which information is freely shared, we don't have to. This is very eye-opening for all of us greens who like to believe we are better off just learning what we need on our own without bothering anyone else.
The mastermind also acts on another level which is to boost the energy of everyone who participates. Hill says: "When a group of individual brains are coordinated and function in harmony, the increased energy created through that alliance becomes available to every individual brain in the group."
Of course, the energy boost can also work in the opposite way. When someone whines and complains it can bring the whole group down. In this situation the negativity acts like an infection that starts with a small cut and ends up threating a patient's life. This is why Michael always shuts down any conversation that starts moving in a negative direction.
Hill also tells us that when we work with a mastermind, we put ourselves in position to "absorb power directly from the great universal storehouse of Infinite Intelligence." And this storehouse will never be empty...it is always there when we need more.
What do we do with this energy? Use it to motivate ourselves first, and when we are full, thanks to our commitment to the mastermind, we can share it, using it to to inspire and motivate others. You are now the person that uplifts and inspires when someone is down, or motivates team members to recognize their own power and potential.
Many people, myself included, have looked for a powerful mastermind group to associate with in order to have these incredible benefits. We are lucky to have one ready made for us. Just plug in, participate regularly, enjoy the energy and share it with everyone you meet.
