How to Outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear
Fear, doubt, and indecision are three common enemies that can stand between you and your riches. At one point in our life we have encountered one of those, if not all of them.
In this chapter, Hill states the six most common fears. They are:
The fear of POVERTY
The fear of CRITICISM
The fear of ILL HEALTH
The fear of LOSS OF LOVE OF SOMEONE
The fear of OLD AGE
The fear of Death
The one that stands out to me, and I believe most people live in these days is the fear of poverty. That is why I believe most people settle for jobs that they don't have a desire for, and we all know that desire is the first step towards riches. But the reason people accept these jobs, that they have no desire for, is because they want to make some money to stay out of poverty. And if you were to ask them how much money they would like to make, they probably couldn't tell you because they have never thought about it.
A few months ago, Tim Tebow (who was a former NFL player and now turned professional baseball player) made a great point that I believe relates to this chapter. When asked why he is trying to become a professional baseball player after the NFL didn't work out, he stated how playing professional baseball has been a dream of his. And then he continued by saying how no matter if he becomes one or not, it's upsetting to see society never take a chance on their dream and settle for something average, because that's what everyone else believes they should do.
I believe that Tim hit the bullseye in stating that people are afraid to go after what they want because of fear. They are afraid of being criticized, being in poverty, etc. As Hill states, fear is a state of mind. One negative thought can multiply into many. If that's the case, one positive thought can multiply into more positive thoughts. My belief is that you only get one life. Know what you want, have a desire for it, and enjoy going after your dream.
