“They are absolutely fearless” is a phrase often quoted about men and women who achieve great things. That same comment is also applied as a form of admiration of family or friends.
Sadly, in most cases that comment is untrue because even our greatest of hero’s will readily admit they have at one time or another, felt fears icy tingle – the difference is they CHOSE to accept the fear and do it anyway.
In other words, each decided their chosen prize had a greater worth than that of allowing fear to rob them of their desire, and succeeded in controlling fear. It is also true much of the way we learn is by example and stories of individual heroism have always encouraged men and women to achieve more than they originally felt themselves capable of, especially during times of great stress or danger.
However, for most of us, such stories are not always easy to relate to our own daily war on those tiny fears which can so easily derail our efforts, such as lifting that 300-lb. telephone to make the next call, or once, as I remember, sitting in a car for two hours before finally convincing myself it was too late in the day to start canvassing a street for insurance business and going home after a 'bad' day. In that instance, as a form of punishment or therapy, I never quite worked out which, I made myself go back to that same street the following day but this time I jumped out and locked the car before giving myself the time to change my mind again, not a profound solution but effective.
Hill tells us to “Take Inventory of Yourself, As You Read This Closing Chapter, and Find Out How Many of the “Ghosts” Are Standing in Your Way” and to prepare our minds by using study, analysis, and understanding of three enemies which must be dealt with.
He also states “The Sixth Sense will never function while these three negatives, or any of them remain in your mind. The members of this unholy trio are closely related; where one is found, the other two are close at hand”.
INDECISION is the seedling of FEAR! Remember this, as you read. Indecision crystallizes into DOUBT, the two blend and become FEAR! The “blending” process often is slow. This is one reason these three enemies are so dangerous. They germinate and grow without their presence being observed.
Fortunately for us, as we regularly work our way through this and the pre-ceding fourteen chapters, we begin to realize the power of this constant re-enforcement along with daily self - talk are the exact same tools needed to keep those pervasive and resolve weakening thoughts at bay, creating that “bullet proof armour" Michael often mentions, which allows us to recognize and handle those personal fears without allowing any of them to prevent us moving to turn the dream into our reality
Those less fortunate sometimes refer to successful people as “Lucky”. Fact is "luck people" seem to find the more they focus on positive thought and planned action, the luckier they get – so the question when dealing with fear must be DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?
