Hill says: “Man may become the master of himself, and of his environment, because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind”. Why is this? The subconscious mind is the seat of habitual thoughts and actions; as a man thinks so he acts and, by this means, he controls his destiny. It is totally under our control; it can be said to be the shadowy ghost-like figure totally responsive to our thoughts and actions but also controlling our thoughts and actions. We can fashion it to our own purposes or let it be fashioned by external sources.

“Autosuggestion is a term which applies to all suggestions and all self-administered stimuli which reach one’s mind through the five senses”. This quote from Hill is so true. Whether we realize it or not, we are always talking to ourselves and by this means we are influencing our subconscious minds. Not all of our thoughts originate from within; some or most of them come from without, from the media, from advertising, from well- meaning family and friends, and we allow them to influence our subconscious minds. When we allow these tramp thoughts to control our minds we have abrogated responsibility for the way we live and handed control to others.

“Nature has so built man that he has absolute control over the material which reaches his subconscious mind through his five senses although this is not meant to be construed as a statement that man always exercises this control”. We can say stop to this mind-pollution. We can say: “I want to redesign my life”. Our first act should then be to discover why we were created: that is to discover our true purpose. The next step is to create a self-talk that reflects and supports that purpose. The purpose is not just about making money; it’s about how you relate to your family and friends, the wider community and even the world. Money while it is essential to better fulfil a purpose is only a means to an end.

Hill says: “Your subconscious mind recognizes and acts only upon thoughts which have been well mixed with emotion or feeling”, and “You will get no appreciable results until you learn to reach your subconscious mind with thoughts or spoken words which have been well emotionalized with belief”. I find that setting aside some time every day for concentrated meditation on my purpose, through self-talk, is essential. The emotion of belief will in time grow into absolute faith.

Why does my subconscious mind control my destiny? If my purpose is worthy and I influence the subconscious mind with absolute faith, it will petition the Holy Spirit of the universe to inspire my imagination with plans to fulfil my purpose. This inspiration will flash into my mind through the sixth sense and I must act upon it immediately.

Autosuggestion is the most important principle for redesigning my life because it changes everything; the other principles, described by Hill “are simply tools with which to apply autosuggestion”.
