Chapter 2: Desire
Donna Catron, Butler, MO
Edwin Barnes had a burning desire to work with Thomas Edison. There were some who told him he was chasing a foolish dream, but he turned his ears off and continued to work towards his dream. However, in some ways Edwin Barnes was lucky. He was lucky because he lived in a time in history when great things were happening. People were imagining things like telephones, steam engines, automobiles, airplanes, locomotives and more. All these people knew their desires and worked for them. Each faced obstacles they were able to overcome because they willed it to be so.
There was a time when children were encouraged to excel and strive. Somewhere along the way, this has changed. Now, children are discouraged from standing out from the crowd. They no longer imagine, but rather sit in front of an electronic device. Even the Army is no longer saying, "Be all you can be!"
Determining my "Why" and that "desire" is my challenge.
