Chapter 1 Thoughts are Things
“Thoughts are things,” Mr. Hill states, “and very powerful things when they are mixed with purpose, persistence and a burning desire, for their translation into riches or other material objects."
Mr. Hill goes on to prove his point by: (1) the story of Edwin C. Barnes….who, against all odds, persisted and later went into partnership with the great Edison. (2) R.U Darby, who, quit when he was within three feet of striking it rich in the gold mine, but, learned from his mistakes and became far richer as a result. (3) how a little girl, conquered a big, powerful man and received her demand from him.---when I read this emotional, moving account, the 1963 song by Lesley Gore came to mind, called, “you don't own me”.
Each of these examples show the result of a person who owns their mind. They possess their capability to think, honor that original thought, and then act accordingly. They have removed 'impossible' from their thinking. They are unstoppable; Hill says, “unquitible”, they are ten feet tall. Again, Hill says, they have “stickabilty”. Invincible! Masters of their fate and Captains of their soul because they have the power to control their thoughts.
This lesson has served to fan the flames of my burning desire to grow and achieve, and do more than ever, both for myself and for others. So thankful for each of you.
